Greetings National Alumni Association of Sabine High School (NAASHS) Members, Sabine High School Alumni, Family and Friends of the Sabine Parish community.
In August of 1975, the first meeting of the Sabine High School Alumni Association was held at the old Sabine High School on Highland Avenue in Many, Louisiana under the visionary leadership of Frank Davis. This initial meeting set the stage for the first alumni convention the following year in August of 1976. The 1976 convention was held at the Starlight Motel on Highway 171 in Many, La.
This past August, NAASHS kicked off our year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Alumni Association of Sabine High School. The celebration will culminate with the 2026 Alumni Weekend, August 14-16, 2026. The Cypress Bend Resort will again host the event. Details about the alumni activities will be communicated throughout the year as plans are developed.
NAASHS got off to a fast start in 2025. One of our strategic goals is “Increased Visibility in the Many Community”. We participated in the February Black History Program at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church highlighting local historical figures. Participation in the Many Juneteenth parade and festival allowed us to reconnect with former Sabine High School alumni and family. In August, we gave an NAASHS update presentation at the annual Sabine High School Revitalization Project community update meeting.
At the conclusion of the August presentation, NAASHS presented two $2,000 scholarships to Sabine Parish high school graduates. The Holden scholarship was presented to Alaya Lowe (LSU Alexandria) and the Willie and Lena Garner scholarship was presented to Brian Stewart, Jr. (Northwestern State University) Please join us in congratulating these two young scholars.
Again, as I have stated before, our main initiatives are below:
1. Increased Membership: Annual dues are only $50 per year calendar year. If you are not a member of NAASHS, please consider joining our organization. Annual dues help to cover our operating expenses, but more importantly, dues help to fund scholarships for the graduates of Sabine Parish high schools. Annual dues are due in January of each year, but we accept payments and donations throughout the year.
2. Increase Funding for Scholarships: Funding scholarships are the “life blood” of our main strategy of becoming more scholarship focused. Simply, we cannot issue scholarships without funding from our members, friends and alumni family
3. Increase the Number and Amounts of Scholarships Awarded: Please donate to our General Scholarship fund or establish a scholarship in the name of someone you would like to honor. Please visit our website for more information and scholarship application forms. Bookmark the website: https://naashs.org/ for updates.
Until next time, may God continue to bless and prosper you and your family.
Sincerely,
NAASHS Board
